New Home, New Start, Huh
After 2 weeks in a hotel, we found a place to live.
April 10 - The New Townhouse
Last night was our first night in the new place. We checked out of the hotel at noon and had to argue with the hotel manager over the bill. She was looking at the wrong account at first, then claimed we had an outstanding balance of a thousand dollars. Every time we extended our stay, we were paying ahead. Finally, she realized the “outstanding balance” was two pre-authorizations they had never finalized. I was pissed because that money was out of our accounts and they were claiming we owed more.
Anyway, we had already set up my mom’s new recliner that arrived just before the flood in the new place, so she could sit and read while we brought things over from the house. Furniture on metal legs, like our sofa, entertainment center, work desks, my mom’s bed, and several bookcases, survived. Our bed, dressers, wooden bookcases, and anything sitting on the ground are toast.
Some dear friends helped us move a bunch of stuff over using their truck and enclosed trailer. There is more to clean and move, but we are doing it slowly.
April 15 - The New Townhouse
Every time we go to the house, we have to figure out what is ruined and what we can salvage. It's rough. The house is still damp. I left some boxes I'd bought there, and they disintegrated when my husband tried to use them the next day, so this time I took cheap bags I'd bought at 5 Below.
It was very emotional to see the house's condition. It looks nothing like when I lived there.
I also got a bad headache and asthma while in the house. There's no way we could live there, so I am so happy the GoFundMe helped us get a new place to live.
